Communities We Serve
For more than 15 years, BASM has served communities in Camarines Norte, a remote province of the Philippines. The total population of the province is approximately 515,000 people, with almost 20 percent residing in the capital of Daet. Subsistence farming and fishing are the predominant occupations in this region.
The poor in Camarines Norte have virtually no access to modern medical services of any kind. Many of the people who receive care from BASM travel from remote island areas to take advantage of the opportunity to receive healthcare. In addition to direct services to patients, we work closely with local community partners and medical care providers to improve the skills and ongoing standard of care available to residents. We also aim to instill a spirit of community service in the local teams and our own visiting volunteers who collaborate to support our missions. BASM has performed more than 2,500 surgeries and improved the lives of many patients and families in this beautiful but challenged part of the world - and there is much more work to be done. |
